Employee Empowerment: Giving back to our communities
Any thriving business knows that it’s their people that make the difference. And at Nasstar, we understand that giving back to the people who help us to grow and evolve, helps them grow and evolve too. One way we do this is by offering all our employees the chance to take paid days off to volunteer for causes close to their heart.
Not only does this show our employees that we care about what they care about, but it also empowers them to make a difference in their communities – something we should all take an interest in.
Latha Balne, Software Engineer at Nasstar, recently took up the opportunity to volunteer at a local school’s mock interview volunteer day, and she shares her experience with us here.
Shaping the workforce of the future
“I have been a STEM ambassador for over four years, which has provided me with some amazing volunteering opportunities, of which I complete 15 hours per year. The chance to volunteer at The Gilberd School’s year 10 mock interview day was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss!
“My managers and the wider teams at Nasstar gave me their support to get involved in this, so I excitedly enrolled. On the day of the event, I arrived at the school brimming with anticipation for the opportunity ahead, and I felt ready to make a meaningful impact on the students’ lives.
“Throughout the day, I engaged in mock interviews with many of the students, offering constructive feedback and insights using my own experiences in the STEM field. Seeing their confidence grow after each interaction made me feel proud that I was preparing them for the challenges ahead, even if they weren’t looking at STEM as a first choice.
“Towards the end of the day, I took the opportunity to reflect on both what I had achieved during the experience and how well-supported I felt with the backing I had from Nasstar. Their willingness to invest in my growth and support my interests had enriched my professional journey, while allowing me to serve my community in a meaningful way.
“As a Nasstar employee, I feel fortunate to be a part of a company that not only values professional development but also provides a supportive and nurturing environment that empowers employees to reach their full potential outside of work too.”
2024 Inspiring Indian Women (IIW) Awards
Latha’s success doesn’t stop at STEM ambassador or volunteering. She was recently nominated and selected as one of the 100 finalists across the globe in the ‘2024 IIW SHE INSPIRES AWARDS’, in the ‘Promising Professional’ category. Exemplifying resilience and determination, Latha was nominated due to her positive can-do attitude and her work to inspire others to break down barriers.
We wish Latha all the luck with the awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament this month, just in time for International Womens Day.
